An amusing Trek parody: what Star Trek would have been like had it been made in 1912. Keep a look out for the 'captain's logs'.
It appears that Oprah is backpedaling on 'The Secret' somewhat after a viewer with breast cancer wrote in saying that she's decided to forgo treatment and use 'The Secret' instead.
Oprah Clarifies Her Thoughts About The SecretAfter watching the DVD and seeing The Oprah Show about The Secret, Kim wrote to Oprah after she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Three doctors told Kim she would have to have a partial radical mastectomy of the right breast and treatment. Kim writes that "after much thought, I have decided to heal myself." Her letter caught Oprah's attention, and she wanted to talk to Kim.
Oprah tells Kim she believes that The Secret is merely a tool; it's not treatment. "The medical community, as we know, have been able to perform what some people call miracles," Oprah says. "And while you're taking advantage of that, think as positively [as you can]. Think about attracting healing to yourself, think about the goodness that the healing will bring to yourself."
This "The Secret" special on Oprah is painful viewing. Why oh why Channel 10 are you running this in prime time?
OMG, my usually over cautions parents saw a house in mt waverly last weekend and bought it today. We're selling our current house and moving in a few months.
I'm underwhelmed
Science is a special kind of magic, practiced by people called 'nerds'. No body knows how it works for sure, but it probably has something to do with computer machines.
Be careful, science is dangerous. Nerds get so lazy from all their science making that they only have enough strength to stare into space, talk to the internet, or drive their electric wheelchairs.
Sometimes nerds get angry. If too many nerds are angry at one time, electricity stops working and nuclear bombs go off. Damn you nerds! (but don't tell them i said that)
Luckily, normal people can reap the rewards of science without having to risk their own sanity, because nerds are happy to do science for you. They will except monetary compensation, but are also happy to work for social approval.
One final note. Logic tells us that all nerds wear glasses, but that not all people who wear glasses are nerds. You may not agree with this fact, but you'll have a hard time convincing me otherwise, as there are two sides to every story.
I've been meaning to read Richard Dawkins' new book: The God Delusion. I'm a big Dawkins fan. I know Lee has read it (or is reading it), but recreational reading tends to go out the window for me when uni is in full swing.
But, in the interim I went and bought this audio book (actually, it is more of a recorded monologue); Dawkins mentioned it briefly in a youtube video i watched. It's written and performed by Julia Sweeney:
Julia Sweeney::Letting Go of God
I bought it on iTunes, and listened to it in one go. It made quite an impression. It is very funny, very poignant, and very intelligent. Sweeney uses autobiography as well as Dawkins uses rhetoric
