A short film is born
Well wasn't I surprised. The meeting regarding next semesters Film and Video Collaborative unit revealed that the name of the game is to make one huge great big short film. We are encouraged to spend heaps of money, shoot on 16mm, and the aim (according to Simon Wilmot) is to get our film into the St Kilda Short Film Festival.
We will be in teams of 6. Already Jane, Jenko and I are talking about ideas - which i guess means we are working together. Jenko - well we go way back and are the founders of arcproductions, and Jane - has proven to be a great person to work with for multiple reasons. I assume they both want to, they should say if they don't.
We talked about continuing our interest in fairytales and mythology (furthering the stuff we learn't in Dark Fairytale and Brother Lustig). I'm thinking it might be time to pull out the old Joseph Cambell again.
We're excited by the idea of costumes, make up, lighting and incorporating animation.
As Jenko and I were on our way to the arts office we talked about using a premise based on a philosophical or existential concept. It has to be a simple concept though, so it can play out over a short film.
For example:
Zombie films are based on the idea of - I think therefore I am, but how do I know everyone else is concious.
If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around does it make a sound - does reality exist only for my benefit (sort of the premise of the truman show)
What else?
Collective subconcious - we're all connected, our minds on some level are linked
Memory - fades, is fragmented, how can you trust your memory
Deja Vu - well thats Ground Hog Day obviously
Life is a CD Burner - everything is recorded, makes an impression, even when no one is watching
six degrees of seperation - speaks for itself, and has been done to death
