1.5 hours of actual work per day
Triple Your Personal Productivity by Steve PavlinaStudies have shown that the average office worker does only 1.5 hours of actual work per day. The rest of the time is spent socializing, taking coffee breaks, eating, engaging in non-business communication, shuffling papers, and doing lots of other non-work tasks.
I don't know what these studies are...but I like to think that it's true. I think that it is a testament to modern civilisation.

Mmmm...I'd like to see his criteria for 'actual work'. Sure, some days would go by and you seem to spend no time on constructive things but you were doing things for others and on other occasions the day seemed stuffed to the gunnels. But only 1.5hrs on average? No. No-one I knew at work ran on that level. Is he trying to sell a book?

It does seem ridiculously low. But I liked the sound of it, as it makes me sound incredibly productive in comparison. Nevertheless, i'm still at a horrifying 94% busy.
Even in the coffee breaks, one might still be doing some thinking...

You know you are in need of a break when you wake at 4am and try to think through 'work' problems. "Are you alright?" says the lump beside me. I'm over that now. I just lie there drafting letters to odd philosophers!
